A fast-growing collaborative business platform that was recently launched in Dundee has unveiled the latest series in its events calendar. The ‘Small Talk’ series will see prominent business owners and entrepreneurs interviewed in front of a limited capacity live audience. The trio plan to host 5 ‘Small Talk’ events over the next year.
Societay have partnered with 71 Brewing in Dundee to host their first ‘Small Talk’ event and look to offer attendees a unique experience with the event taking place between the tanks on the brewery floor of Dundee’s first brewery in over 50 years.
On the night, Richard Davies, founder and owner of Abandon Ship Apparel will share the story of his entrepreneurial journey and how an interest in drawing grew into a national business. He will discuss how he built the Abandon Ship Apparel brand and the highs and lows of his journey through 10 years in business.
Managing Director of 71 Brewing, Duncan Alexander said: “It’s great to be involved with Societay and we are delighted to partner with them to host this event on our brewery floor. When I grew up in Dundee, there wasn’t much talk of entrepreneurialism but with the regeneration of the city in recent years, the business community is producing some really interesting entrepreneurs, like Richard, who have great stories to tell”
Ali McGill of Ashton McGill will host the conversation with Richard on the evening and hopes to unlock the stories being the highs and lows of his entrepreneurial journey.
Societay founders, commented: “It’s great to launch our new series by partnering with Abandon Ship and 71 Brewing for this first event. Dundee has been producing some really interesting businesses and entrepreneurs like Richard and Duncan over the past few years. With this event, we want to help show people in the creative sector that turning your passion into a business is a real possibility.”
Societay, which was set up by Chris Gardiner (Thorntons Solicitors), Andy McGill (Ashton McGill) and Daniel Rosie (DLR Media), launched ‘Small Talk’ last week to run alongside their now established monthly socials, which are held at the White Goose on the first Thursday of every month.
The Societay monthly socials offer a place to meet other people who are working and living in Dundee in a relaxed setting. Unlike traditional networking groups, they say that their monthly socials are different;
Societay founders, commented: “Our monthly socials have no structure, no pressure and no agenda. They are really relaxed; these types of events should be fun, not a chore.”
The new Small Talks Series of events will showcase the wide range of business and personal success stories within Tayside. With only 50 tickets available for this intimate event in a unique venue, they won’t be available for long. Tickets can be booked online via Eventbrite and every ticket holder will receive a 71 Brewing Beer or soft drink on arrival. There will also be an opportunity to socialise in the 71 Taproom afterwards.
