Societay launches new season of events

A fast-growing collaborative business platform which is based in Dundee has unveiled the latest series in its events calendar.

The second Societay ‘Small Talk’ series will see prominent business owners and entrepreneurs interviewed in front of a limited capacity live audience throughout unique venues in Dundee and Angus.

Societay plan to host 3 ‘Small Talk’ events over this year and have many more lined up for 2020.

Societay has partnered with Dundee One, Dundee’s latest shared working space to host their first ‘Small Talk’ event and look to offer attendees a unique experience with the event taking place on their top floor with 180 views across the Tay.

Andy Lothian, CEO of Insights Group, will be joined by Edel Harris, Chief Executive of Cornerstone, for the first Small Talk event.

Edel Harris, who joined Cornerstone, one of Scotland’s largest charities, as Chief Executive in May 2008 having previously been Deputy Chief Executive of Aberdeen Foyer will discuss entrepreneurship, their experiences in both the private and third sector and Edel’s entrepreneurial journey so far.

Andy Lothian of Insights will host the conversation with Edel on the evening and hopes to unlock the stories being the highs and lows of her entrepreneurial journey within the third sector.

Amongst Edel’s many achievements she was awarded the 2015 IOD North East Director of the Year accolade and in 2017 became the Scottish EY Entrepreneur of the Year. On International Women’s Day 2018 Edel was awarded an honorary doctorate from Robert Gordon University for her contribution to charity and business in Scotland.

Main event sponsors Thorntons Investments will also take to the stage to take about investment and finance within the third sector.

Societay, which was set up by Chris Gardiner (Thorntons Solicitors), Andy McGill (Ashton McGill) and Daniel Rosie (DLR Media). The Societay events offer a place to meet other people who are working and living in Dundee in a relaxed setting. Unlike traditional networking groups, they say that their monthly socials are different. “Our events are open to all, we are looking to attract a real mix along to our events and love to see people collaborating and networking within the Tayside.“

“Our Small Talks Series of events looks to showcase the wide range of business and personal success stories within Tayside and further afield. With only 60 tickets available for this intimate event in a unique venue, they won’t be available for long. Tickets can be booked online via Eventbrite and every ticket holder will receive a drink on arrival. There will also be an opportunity to socialise on the roof terrace of Dundee One.”
